On June 8-9, we concluded our second 2-day session of negotiations over our DOC members' 2023-2025 collective bargaining agreement.

In our first session held on May 25-26, our Union Negotiation Committee develop and presented a comprehensive language proposal based on feedback from contract surveys and demands meetings.

In this session, starting on Wednesday, June 8, the State presented its language proposals. Some of the State's ideas would be harmful to the membership, and we are pushing back. One bright spot was in health services where the employer seems more amenable to the needs of the membership.

The State's presentation wrapped up around lunchtime last Wednesday. Our team devoted the rest of the afternoon in caucus preparing our response. We worked until 8 p.m. on Wednesday night, and on Thursday, June 9, we made a comprehensive counterproposal.

We are especially intent in these negotiations on ensuring that the membership is protected from DOC's practice of imposing excessive mandatory overtime and addressing the problem of chronic understaffing as it relates to staff safety.

Our next 2-day session is scheduled for June 22-23 over Zoom. The complete schedule for negotiations is listed below:
