El 14 de febrero, más de 230 miembros de Teamsters 117 y sus familias se reunieron en el Capitolio del Estado en Olimpia para nuestro Día de Cabildeo del DOC.

Fue nuestro mayor y más exitoso evento del Día del Lobby. Los miembros del Local 117 se reunieron con docenas de legisladores para discutir temas que impactan directamente en sus vidas.

Our Lobby Day event exemplifies the kind of Union we are working to build. It’s a Union where members are engaged, organized, informed, and politically active.

Over the last few months, we have been developing a strategic plan that will shape the future of our Union. More than 2,400 members filled out our membership survey to provide input into the plan.

The survey asked questions about our Union’s mission and purpose, how best to build unity, improve communication, and increase member involvement.

We’ve also held meetings of member leaders to critically analyze our Union. What are our strengths? Where do we need to improve? What do we need to prepare for? And what opportunities will we want to capitalize on in the future?

Based on your feedback from the surveys and at these meetings, we have established four strategic priorities that will guide our Union into the future. They are:

1. Fortify our Union against attacks on workers;
2. Construir nuestro poder a través de una nueva organización;
3. Invertir en el liderazgo y el desarrollo de los miembros;
4. Construir nuestro poder político.

Estos son los temas que usted identificó como de importancia crítica para construir la unidad y el poder para toda la gente trabajadora y para ayudar a levantar nuestras comunidades.

En las próximas semanas, seguiremos construyendo nuestro plan en torno a estas prioridades. Hemos formado subcomités para trabajar en cada prioridad, y desarrollaremos nuestro plan en nuestro próximo seminario de Shop Steward el 11 de marzo.
