James LeDahl (l), a Shop Steward at Lineage Logistics, and Union Rep Quincy Zanders (r) calling on Justin Thomas to drop his sponsorship with Lineage.
Teamsters are calling on top PGA golfer, Justin Thomas, to be a better person and drop his sponsorship with Lineage Logistics.
Members of our Local Union traveled across the country to deliver that message to Thomas who was playing on Sunday at the St. Jude FedEx golf tournament in Memphis, TN.
Making the trip was Shop Steward James LeDahl, a Teamster who works at Lineage's cold storage facility in Seattle. LeDahl was part of the team that displayed a banner and distributed leaflets to golf fans attending the event.
"We came out to Memphis to let the public know how bad Lineage Logistics is with all of their unfair labor practices," Ledahl said. "I work in a refrigerated warehouse that gets down to 20 below zero. It's a lot of wear and tear on your body. We've been working without a contract since April 1 and the company keeps changing things, violating the law."
Federal labor complaints of bad faith bargaining allege Lineage unlawfully negotiated directly with its employees and in doing so misrepresented eligibility for healthcare benefits to workers. Lineage has an abysmal track record in other areas as well, including:
- Over $3 million in air pollution violations
- More than $1 million in workplace safety penalties
- OSHA and EPA investigations across multiple facilities
Teamsters 117 sent a letter to Thomas requesting that he contact the company and urge them to bargain in good faith.
"Justin Thomas needs to know that Lineage Logistics - his top sponsor - is engaging in unlawful activity and violating workers' rights," said Paul Dascher, Secretary-Treasurer of Teamsters Local 117. “We urge Thomas to contact the company immediately and tell them to stop breaking the law. We plan to continue sending that message to Thomas and Lineage at other PGA events. We will go wherever it takes until our members are treated fairly."
