Teamsters 117 Family -
We live in tumultuous times.
It is still unclear how tariffs and the recent federal government shutdown will impact our economy, but there is no doubt: Workers are struggling. Prices at the grocery store continue to climb as do the cost of everyday essentials like healthcare, daycare, and housing. Too many of our country’s so-called leaders refuse to address the affordability crisis and turn a blind eye to people who are struggling.
As a Union, we will never leave people behind. Instead, we strive to build worker power, lift people up, and level the playing field. We do it by bargaining strong contracts like we’ve done recently at Swire, Darigold, King County, and Fred Meyer. We also look after workers who are facing hardship. This holiday season, we’re doing it by sponsoring a Local Union Toy Drive for struggling families and a Canned Food Drive at our Joint Council.

But building power and a better future for all workers also requires us to act strategically. That’s why our Union is in the midst of a strategic planning process. We want to analyze our strengths, understand where we can improve, and capitalize on external opportunities. The goal is to establish priorities that will guide us over the next three years and help build an even stronger Union.
So far, more than a thousand members have submitted their ideas on how to strengthen our Union. This record participation shows that members care about their Union and want to be engaged. You can join them by providing your feedback in a short survey here.
As we look toward the new year, I want to thank the many Teamsters who are working this holiday season when so many people are home celebrating with their families. Your sacrifice is another reminder about why we must never relent in our fight for higher wages, safer working conditions, and better lives for all workers.
En Solidaridad,

Paul Dascher
Secretary-Treasurer
