New Local 117 members at Transdev celebrate their new Teamsters contract after a ratification vote on June 26.

Los nuevos miembros del Local 117 en Transdev pasan sus días de trabajo ayudando a los demás. Recogen a los residentes más vulnerables de nuestra comunidad, los ancianos y los discapacitados, y los transportan a lugares a través del condado de King.

Now, a first-time Teamsters contract will give them the respect they deserve.  Yesterday, the newly-organized group voted by an overwhelming margin to approve the contract.

The agreement provides job security, health and welfare protections, wage increases, and a strong foothold into the Teamsters pension.  Approximately 260 new members and their families will be covered by the contract.

"I'm excited beyond words," said Sherrie Tinner, a 10-year driver with the company and a member of our union bargaining committee.  "After a lot of work, we finally have voice at work. Our new Teamsters contract provides us with a secure future."

"As Paratransit drivers, we take pride in the work we do," added Sue Engel, who also served on our union bargaining committee. "I'm happy that our union contract provides recognition and respect for that work."

Late last year, Transdev drivers voted to become members of Teamsters Local 117 through an election process with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). The workers demonstrated incredible courage and fortitude during a difficult organizing drive. They stuck together and spoke out collectively for a strong voice at work and membership to our Union.

“Congratulations to our new members at Transdev on this major achievement,” said John Scearcy, Secretary-Treasurer of Teamsters Local 117. “By standing together and winning a Teamsters contract, these workers have secured a better future for themselves and their families. Our Union is stronger with their collective voice.”
