Our Coalition of Unions has had a productive couple of weeks at the bargaining table with the County.
Two weeks ago, we achieved an increase in the amount the County will be contributing each year into our Professional Development Fund, which is an exclusive benefit for Coalition members. We also made good progress on holiday pay allotments for members with alternative work schedules. Moving forward, those employees will have a make-whole arrangement in terms of how their holiday pay is distributed by the County.
CORE ECONOMICS DEMANDS
Last week, we continued to address our core economic demands, which we know are central to County employees. On Tuesday, May 6, while in Union caucus, we put together a comprehensive proposal that incorporates all of our outstanding economic asks. We want an economic package that supports the County workforce, not just in terms of providing good wages and benefits, but also in protecting Coalition members from the possibility of economic uncertainty in the future.
TELECOMMUTING PROPOSAL
Part of our proposal includes a modification to telecommuting, which we know is important to a number of members of the Coalition. We want more clarity around why telework or alternative work schedules are denied and to provide members with the ability to challenge those decisions if necessary and have adequate notice to that any agency changes their onsite work requirements.
JLMIC NEGOTIATIONS
We have scheduled our Joint Labor Management Insurance Committee (JLMIC) negotiations for later this month. This is the group that oversees health benefits for County employees. Our deadline to reach an agreement with the County over your benefits is the end of May in order to avoid triggering the interest arbitration clause in our Memorandum of Understanding with the County.
You can view a short video update from one of the rank-and-file members of our Coalition team - Yasmin Antonio, a Customer Service Specialist III in the Records and Licensing Services Division.
Please reach out to a member on our negotiations committee if you have questions.
