Labor celebrated a huge win in Olympia on Friday thanks to hundreds of Teamsters speaking out.📢

We got our bill - unemployment insurance for striking workers - across the finish line, and now it's on the way to the Governor's desk for signature‼️ 🎉

This couldn't have happened without hundreds of Teamsters 117 members signing in support of the bill and sending more than five hundred emails to legislators over the last four months. It shows that our collective voice matters, and we can make a difference when we pool our power. 💪

Under the bill, workers will be able to apply for unemployment benefits through the state after two weeks on strike. While we didn't get everything we wanted - the final bill was amended to limit benefits to six weeks - this is still a huge victory for working people.

The new law will give workers more leverage in contract negotiations and help protect workers from financial hardship when they are forced to strike by their employer.

Thanks to everyone who spoke out in support of the bill. Thanks also to our Union's incredible Legislative Affairs department for the countless hours they spent engaging our membership and educating legislators about this groundbreaking new benefit.

Hope this comes as some really great news to start out your week! 🙌
