Cuando el Secretario-Tesorero Thompson pide una moción en las reuniones generales, el primero que invariablemente levanta la mano es Randy Marquis, un Shop Steward y operador de equipo pesado de la ciudad de Tacoma.

Randy is an avid attendee of union meetings where he plays an active role. At the September general membership meeting, Marquis stood up and questioned candidates running for the State legislature if they intended to support statewide Paid Sick Days legislation.

“You can’t just be a dues paying member and sit on the sidelines and expect to see the Union work.”

“You’ve got to attend the meetings,” Marquis insists. “You can’t just be a dues paying member and sit on the sidelines and expect to see the Union work.”

Después de más de dos décadas en la ciudad, Randy se convirtió en un Shop Steward el año pasado, cuando un experimentado y veterano Steward se retiró. "No tenía la ambición para el papel, pero cuando Kevin se fue quería asegurarme de que mantuviéramos su legado", dijo.
Randy es delegado del Consejo Laboral del Condado de Pierce, y asistió a la Convención del Consejo Laboral del Estado de Washington en Wenatchee este verano. 

Hablando de la Convención, dijo: "Fue una gran experiencia. Hubo algunos grandes talleres, y pude codearme con otras personas que se preocupan por mejorar la vida de los trabajadores".

Looking ahead, Marquis says he wants to get more involved in his Union’s political program. With the election right around the corner, he’ll have plenty of opportunity to do just that!
