A coalition of five Local Unions, representing 800 Teamsters across Western Washington, has achieved a fully-recommended settlement offer with Swire/Coca Cola. The tentative agreement covers seven collective bargaining agreements for all Teamster-represented classifications at the company, including drivers, production workers, merchandisers, mechanics, and sales representatives.
Teamster Local Unions 38, 117, 174, 313, and 589 reached the agreement with the company early this morning at a neutral location in Tukwila. On Sunday, June 1, the Unions will be holding contract ratification meetings at their respective Union halls so members can review and vote on the proposal.
Some of the top priorities for the Union in these negotiations were seniority rights, family wages, and making improvements to the workers’ health and welfare coverage. On Saturday, May 10, members of the five Local Unions voted overwhelmingly to authorize a strike.
“Teamsters at Swire work incredibly hard to produce and distribute Coca-Cola products to customers across the Pacific Northwest,” said Paul Dascher, Secretary-Treasurer of Teamsters Local 117, and one of the lead negotiators for the coalition. “This agreement comes fully-recommended by our union negotiations committee. We look forward to meeting with our members soon to discuss the proposal and to bring the offer to a vote.”
