Teamsters police officers and sergeants who work at the Gig Harbor Police Department are supporting Lieutenant Tray Federici to lead the agency as its permanent Police Chief. Officers voiced their overwhelming support for Lieutenant Federici through a survey conducted by their Union, Teamsters Local 117. Federici rose through the ranks of the Department and has been serving as its Interim Police Chief since June 2025.
Several rank-and-file officers have spoken out publicly in support of Interim Chief Federici, including Officer Chet Dennis, a Shop Steward and 19-year veteran of the agency.
“As a Teamsters 117 union steward, I strongly endorse Interim Police Chief Tray Federici for permanent Police Chief of the Gig Harbor Police Department,” Officer Dennis said. “Chief Federici has earned the trust and respect of GHPD officers through his consistent, people-first leadership. His clear vision for the department’s future aligns with our community’s evolving needs, ensuring proactive strategies and enhanced safety for officers and residents alike. I am confident Chief Federici will lead GHPD with integrity and dedication, making our city safer and stronger.”
Detective Sergeant Jarab Daniel, a 10-year veteran of the GHPD, and Officer Patrick Sam, who has served the Department for nine years, also voiced their unwavering support for Federici.
“I proudly support Tray Federici as the Chief of Police for the City of Gig Harbor,” said Detective Sergeant Daniel. “During his interim tenure, Chief Federici has shown steady leadership, integrity, and a centered focus on community safety. His collaborative approach, strong community partnerships, and proven results have earned the backing and support of the officers who serve our agency. He is the right choice to lead the Gig Harbor Police Department as permanent chief.”
“We have a highly qualified internal applicant who has risen through the ranks of our police department,” Officer Sam said. “Tray Federici has the knowledge and experience that will keep GHPD on the right track for the officers and the citizens.”
Paul Dascher, Secretary-Treasurer of Teamsters Local 117 and the Union’s principal officer, urged the City of Gig Harbor’s mayor, city council, and city administrator to follow the members' recommendation to appoint Federici as permanent chief. “The rank-and-file officers and sergeants who serve the public and protect our communities are strongly in favor of appointing Interim Chief Tray Federici as Gig Harbor’s permanent Police Chief,” Dascher said. “We hope the City will listen to the brave public servants who put their lives on the line every day to keep the Gig Harbor community safe. Interim Chief Federici has their strong support.”
