Loud & proud: Teamster women take the wheel.

Didn't have a chance to attend our Teamsters Womxn's Conference on Saturday? Well, that's a shame because it was a wickedly awesome event. Take a listen to this:

From the Warehouse to the Statehouse: Teamsters Womxn Take the Wheel featured frank, often passionate discussions about the challenges facing working women. At the same time, it gave folks plenty of space to dream, share aspirations, learn from each other, and celebrate victories.

Check out some images & voices from the event:

"I think it's important that women have a voice, that we are united, and that we are an integral part of our union. Some of the issues that move us are things like childcare and finding affordable housing. One young lady reported that half of her income goes to housing and the other half is for childcare so those are really big issues. Also important to us are food equity, gun violence, and ending wars. This is an opportunity to socialize with other women, get together, share our experiences, our strengths and what we hope to see in the future."

- Kelly Goodnight, Teamster at the Pierce County Health Dept.

We got our group shot next to a cavalcade of Teamster bikers. And we were a hellava lot louder than they were!

"I've been a shop steward for over a year. Somebody had to step up. So I just volunteered to step up."

- Cindy Patterson, Climate Pledge Arena

Excited to recognize & celebrate the next generation of Teamster women.

"This is a good time to connect with other Teamster women, people who understand your issues and can be a sounding board. Childcare, healthcare, eldercare, housing - I feel like those issues impact women more because of the historical and generational role that we've had. It's been shifting but there's still that stereotype."

Michelle Maganis, King County Wastewater Division

We passed the mic around the room and the conversations got real.

"One thing I love about the women's conference is that it brings us together, not only as fellow Teamsters but as people. We're able to network together, talk about issues that impact us, learn together, create together, and just have a good time. For me, access to mental health, getting rid of the stigma around mental health, and the ability for more people to talk about it freely and not feel judged - these are the most important issues."

Jessica Rester, Teamsters 117 Office Staff

Thanks also to dudes like Joshua (r) who helped corral the kids during the event.
