Last week, we finished the second round of bargaining sessions between our Union Negotiations Committee and the State over the 2027-2029 collective bargaining agreement covering our largest bargaining unit - members at the Department of Corrections (DOC) and Washington Management Service (WMS).

The first round of negotiations took place on May 6th and 7th at our Union Hall in Tukwila. You can view an update from those meetings here. The most recent sessions were held online over Zoom.

On May 18th and 19th, we bargaining on behalf of our main DOC unit and on May 27th and 28th we bargained over the agreement for our new members at WMS. We have a group of 37 rank-and-file members from a wide range of classifications and facilities representing you at the bargaining table.

PRIORITIZING YOUR MENTAL HEALTH

One of our top priorities in these negotiations is ensuring that all DOC & WMS Teamsters have provisions protecting their mental health. We want to make sure you have the necessary resources available and that if you are involved in a critical incident you have time afterwards to decompress, get any counseling you may need, and process what you have experienced.

Unfortunately, the State has been slow to recognize the need to make your health and wellness a priority. This has led to frustration among many members on our rank-and-file bargaining committee. We will continue pressing the State on this important issue as negotiations progress.

Our next negotiations sessions will be held over Zoom on June 3-4 for our DOC main table and June 10-11 for our WMS group. You can see the entire bargaining schedule listed below:
